Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry in Beverly Hills
Sedation dentistry uses gentle, closely watched medication to carry you through treatment at ease, whether you tense up at the thought of the chair, have a sensitive gag reflex, or simply want a longer visit to pass in comfort. Dr. Hill treats it as the answer to the reason so many patients stay away. Our guides to dental anxiety speak to that fear directly.
What sets her approach apart is that the calm begins before any medication does. Dr. Hill opens by listening to what worries you and what past visits felt like, then matches the sedation to how you feel and to the treatment ahead. She is certified in IV conscious sedation, so even the most anxious appointment stays gentle, closely monitored, and fully in your control.
Is This For You
Is sedation right for you?
A Good Fit If
- You feel anxious, panicked, or on edge at the thought of dental treatment
- You have a strong gag reflex, trouble getting fully numb, or a hard time sitting still
- You are facing a longer or more complex visit you would rather rest through
Worth Discussing First
- Certain medical conditions or medications that affect how sedation is planned
- Pregnancy, where some options are set aside for now
- Deeper sedation, where you will need someone to drive you home afterward
Wondering if this is for you? Dr. Hill will tell you honestly at your consultation whether sedation makes sense for your visit and what she recommends.
Many nervous patients start with the lightest option and adjust from there, entirely at their own pace.
The Difference
A gentler dental experience
-
Care that begins by listening
Dr. Hill opens by hearing what worries you and what past visits felt like, long before any treatment talk. Most of the patients who thank her afterward walked in feeling exactly the way you do now.
-
Four levels of calm, matched to you
Whether you want to take the edge off or sleep through the visit, Dr. Hill fits the sedation to how you feel and to the visit ahead. The dread that kept you away no longer decides whether you get the care you need.
-
Watched over, start to finish
Dr. Hill is certified in IV conscious sedation and keeps a dental anesthesiologist on hand for larger cases. Your pulse, oxygen, and comfort are monitored the whole time, leaving you free to let go and simply rest.
- Nitrous Oxide
- A light breath of calm, inhaled through a soft nasal mask, that lifts within minutes and lets you drive yourself home right after.
- Oral Conscious Sedation
- A small tablet taken before your visit settles your nerves into a deeper ease, while you stay awake and able to respond.
- IV Sedation
- Deeper relaxation delivered and adjusted through the visit, with Dr. Hill certified to administer it herself for complex or longer treatment.
- General Anesthesia
- Full, sleep-like calm for the most complex or anxious cases, overseen with a dental anesthesiologist on hand.

The Consultation
Your calm starts with a conversation, before any treatment
Patients tell us the same thing afterward: I was heard, and the fear was gone. Here is how the consultation unfolds.
We listen first
Dr. Hill starts with what worries you, what past visits felt like, and what comfort would look like for you, well before any treatment plan.
A gentle evaluation, at your pace
A relaxed first visit brings together your exam, digital imaging, and your full medical history with as little poking as possible, matching the right level of sedation to you.
You choose the calm that fits
You leave knowing your options, from mild relaxation to full sleep, with the plan and the pace kept entirely yours.

The questions nervous patients ask us first
I am terrified of the dentist. Can sedation really help?
Yes, and you are in good company. Most of the patients who thank Dr. Hill afterward felt exactly that way walking in. She listens before she treats and offers four levels of sedation, from laughing gas to full sleep with a dental anesthesiologist on hand, matched to how you feel.
Will it hurt?
Comfort is the whole point. IV conscious sedation is delivered through a small catheter, and there is only a brief sting as it is placed. A numbing cream can be applied to the spot first if needles make you nervous, and after that you rest at ease while Dr. Hill works.
What's the difference between IV conscious sedation and general anesthesia?
With IV conscious sedation you stay awake and able to respond, wrapped in a deep sense of calm and well-being. General anesthesia is reserved for the most complex cases, where full sleep is the most comfortable choice. IV sedation also wears off sooner and lets you feel like yourself again faster.
Do I need someone to drive me home?
After IV sedation or general anesthesia, yes. You will feel relaxed and a little drowsy afterward, and a friend or family member should drive you home. After nitrous oxide you can usually drive yourself, because it lifts within minutes of the mask coming off.
Does my insurance cover sedation?
Most dental plans cover sedation only for certain surgical procedures. Dr. Kerri Hill runs a boutique, cash-pay practice and is not in-network, which is what makes unhurried, one-patient-at-a-time care possible. If the investment is the worry, financing through CareCredit, Cherry, PatientFi, and Alphaeon can make a plan comfortable, and we walk through the numbers before you commit to anything.
